Teen Counseling

The teenage years carry rapid change. Identity is forming. Emotions are strong. Independence is expanding. Families often feel the tension before they fully understand it.

Teen therapy at More Life Wellness begins at age 13 and centers both the adolescent and the family system. We work from an integrative Family Systems, Narrative, and Experiential approach. We pay attention to the teen’s story, the relationships shaping that story, and the emotional patterns underneath behavior.

We support teens navigating:

  • Mood shifts and emotional regulation

  • School stress and academic pressure

  • Peer dynamics and social anxiety

  • Trauma and life transitions

  • Behavioral concerns at home or school

  • Identity development and self-worth

We also bring experience working with youth involved in foster care and juvenile justice systems, which deepens my understanding of layered and complex environments.

A Hybrid Model

Teen therapy follows a hybrid structure with alternating:

  • Individual teen sessions

  • Individual parent sessions

  • Family sessions

This model creates space for honesty, parent guidance, and real-time relational repair. Therapy is not a place to fix a child. It is a space to understand what behavior is communicating and how the family system can respond with clarity and consistency.

We focus on strengthening communication, clarifying family values, supporting healthy independence, and nurturing a relationship that feels secure and respectful.

Therapy length varies by family. Some move through focused work in a shorter season. Others continue longer to support deeper relational growth. Part of the process includes normalizing development and distinguishing between expected adolescent behavior and patterns that need more structure.

Our goal is to help teens feel grounded in who they are and help caregivers feel equipped to guide them. When the relationship strengthens, growth follows.
